Hello. You are listening to the Tick Tock Podcast. My name James Carbary, I’m the founder of Sweet Fish Media and I am going to be alongside Sean Blackburn as we talk about time saving tools for entrepreneurs and marketers. Shawn, how are you doing today man?
Fantastic, man. Excited to get this going.
Yeah, man. We’ve been talking about this for a couple of months now. I’m really excited to kick it off. I’ll just go into a brief explanation in this very first episode about what this show is and why I really wanted to form at a show like this. Really, I listen to a ton of podcast Shawn. I know you listen to a ton of podcast as well. There’s a ton of folks out there that are interviewing really famous entrepreneurs and those are great shows.
I learn a ton from those shows. I tend to be a much more practical, give me the nuts and bolts of how you’re doing what you’re doing. I want to know tactics. Then I also like the inspiration and a lot of the even Product Hunt. Product Hunt is a huge reason why I wanted to start a show like this because I find so much value and then curating the list of products and then sharing them with the world.
Even their podcast is more inspirational in nature. They’re interviewing famous entrepreneurs, people that have made a significant impact on the world. I thought man, I don’t need to create another show that does the same thing as all these other folks do. Basically thought, “Man what if we did something like AppSumo or something like Product Hunt in audio form. Shawn I went to you a few months ago and I said, “Hey man, what do you think of this idea?” I guess just tell us a little bit about what your original thoughts were and what you’re excited about in regards to this particular show?
Like you said, I think both of us are plugged into listening to a lot of podcasts. I didn’t know when you spoke about the idea. I didn’t know of any podcast that fit the description of no holds barred, not a lot of fluff but just a lot of tools to help people figure out how to save time with their business or even just their non-profit, whatever they might need.
Some of those online tools that entrepreneurs and movers and shakers and leaders can use, it’s definitely showed that I wanted to listen to but it did exist. I was super excited about getting it started here and as head of marketing for Sweet Fish, I definitely think that it fits into what we’re doing as well, saving people time.
Back in December of 2014, I lost my job at a tech startup. It was December, I got the phone call. By the end of December, I had talked to a couple of friends of mine that had businesses and asked them if they needed any help with their content marketing. Both of them did and pretty quick, I had some monthly recurring revenue and instantly was thrown into this full time entrepreneurship world.
I remember one of the biggest things that I personally struggled with was knowing what tools to use. Even back to my first entrepreneur or venture, a site called worthdayplanner.com, I just remember finding out about MailChimp for the first time and it mind melting because I found out I cannot blind copy everybody on Gmail or email. This is the coolest thing ever. As I started to dive more and more into learning different tools for marketing, tools for all of these different things that entrepreneurs and marketers can use, tools specifically built for them, I get giddy on finding a new tool.
I thought, “Man if we could format an entire show around or giving us for new tools,” then it might be something that resonates with folks.
James, you really do get literally giddy about new tools. I think this podcast is just going to be an extension of a conversation that me and James have every time we grab some food together. Have you heard of this, have you heard of that? This is why this is awesome. I’m totally looking forward to getting this going.
The format of the show is going to be really short in nature. I didn’t want it to be super long. We’re planning on doing anywhere from 2-3 episodes a week but each of those episodes are really only going to be anywhere from three to seven minutes because we want to get right down and dirty, talk about the tools, talk about how they’re helpful for entrepreneurs and marketers and get down to what we love most about them and then close the show.
It’s not something that you’re going to listen to for a 30 minute interview or anything like that but you’re going to be able to dive in, find the tool that we’re talking about that week and hopefully be able to implement it into your business pretty quickly.
